The Boys

We had the best time catching up with friends on Sunday afternoon. R was on a three day visit from Switzerland to say his goodbyes to S. It was such a wonderful couple of hours, reminiscing about times past, as our children entertained themselves.

To look at S, you would have no idea he has very little time left to live. You would have no idea the cancer eating away at his brain is ferocious. He was having a “great day” in his own words. He was full of wit and humour. He contributed opinions and memories to conversations.

On Tuesday, his vision all but left him. He could only see dark and light. He could not make out the faces of his family. He started some serious steroids and by Wednesday he could make out colour and form but not much detail. I dropped in on Thursday to bring him some photos I had taken on Sunday. He could see his friends faces and was grateful.

  1. Which one is S in the photo?

In a way, that’s a good question to ask because all of the blokes look happy in the pic 🙂

My thoughts remain with you and with S and his family.

  2. I can’t imagine how it would feel to maybe be seeing a dear friend for the very last time. My thoughts are with S… he seems very brave indeed. x
