Introducing the Angelica Sisters

Miss i performed in her school end-of-year concert last night. It was held in the new school hall which was a real treat. The concert was titled Hosanna Rocks and was a lively, musical retell of the Nativity Play. It involved all the children in years 3-6 dressed as angels, animals, a gold- lame- pant- wearing -rock -chick- narrator, Mary who sang a couple of beautiful solos, Joseph, the wise men (also wearing gold-lame-jumpsuits), a cheeky Gabriel,  and my biased favourites, the Angelica Sisters, of which miss i was one.

Now leading up to the concert there was much grumbling from our singing actress as she retold of hours upon hours of rehearsals. She had to practice with her fellow Angelica Sisters EVERY lunchtime for three weeks once they had auditioned, and received their parts. This was followed by many more meetings to organise costumes and their dance moves as well as the whole school rehearsals. It was with much relief that the concert date finally arrived.

The role of the Angelica Sisters ( a take off of the Andrew Sisters) was to stand to the side of the stage, in front of the band, and to harmonise the songs being sung on stage. They remained in character the whole performance, pouting and posing coquettishly to the audience even when not singing. It was hilarious!

All six of the Sisters wore blonde wigs which looked super cute on them. Five are naturally fair girls but I could not help but laugh at the dark, italian, gorgeous miss s in her blonde wig with strong dark eyebrows and overly made up red lips. Miss s is known for her OTT personality and is well loved for it. It was definitely a drag queen image coming to me as I watched her over-perform.

It was a fun night with both school choirs also performing. Miss i is in the senior choir and they performed a long but highly entertaining Beach Boys Medley with non stop dance moves. They are performing again tonight at the College as part of the Carols on the Green evening.

(These photos were snapped on my iphone as flash was not allowed, and we are receiving a dvd of the performance.)

  1. Gorgeous! All those rehearsals are always worth it in the end and your daughter and her classmates know that underneath their grumbles 🙂
