Can I Cater?

Birthdays are special in our house. I probably set myself up right from the beginning when I started planning my kids birthday parties. We always had a theme, with decorations, hand made invitations, games, lolly bags and food all falling within the theme. We have always hosted our own parties, mostly at home, without going to extremes with entertainment or the like. To date we have hosted a couple of Harry Potter parties, fairies and unicorns (decorated ponies), circus party, Dr Seuss party, and Twilight Sleep Over party. Miss e LOVES to plan her parties. She starts to put ideas to paper in December as soon as school holidays begin. She has learnt that she is not to discuss her plans until Christmas is over but that is no barrier to her planning. Her birthday is not until mid April but she has the food, decorations, guests, gift list, party games and even the outfit she will wear sorted by the time she is back at school.

Initially I thought that given master x has his first birthday in March, she would be put off that another milestone (she also has to get through Australia Day, Valentine’s Day and Easter before HER big day) is in the way of her birthday. Not in the least.  It just means she has another party to organise! She has bought (from her own pocket money), and wrapped his present, and last week came home from school with a recipe handwritten from a library book. She was very excited about ideas for his birthday cake, party food and the theme it would take, she eventually gave up on trying to describe her ideas and just asked, “Can I be in charge of catering?”

So we made a deal – birthday cake was my domain, but she could be in charge of the rest of the party food and lolly bags. It should be fantastic!
