Busy, busy day

Kids and I headed off early today to help grandparents plant buffalo grass runners in their backyard. They recently moved into this home and with the purchase took on some mighty renovating projects. The backyard has been completely gutted of all its palm trees (date and cocos – you would be so proud Sabrina ha, ha), daggy pavers, illegal pool fencing and completely ugly pergola. With a blank canvass, Pop has painted the boundary fencing, repaved the service side of the house, ordered the ‘taj ma-shed’ and new pergola, and put some thought into new landscaping. With a strict budget he decided to opt for the slightly more labour intensive option of laying new turf. Keen from their memory of seeing an experiment on Better Homes and Gardens recently where they showed several options for growing grass, the girls started off quickly but soon faded from the heat and smell of the manure pellets laid on thickly. To their credit, and the possibility of financial gain, they stuck to the task until completed. Bone weary Pop, struggling with his aging knees and back relished the task of entertaining master x, while personally I enjoyed the quiet, monotonous task at hand, with very few interruptions. If only I could say that now they need to just sit back and watch the grass grow, but still so much to do. Kudos to you Pop for taking on the challenge.

On our return home, we loaded the car twice with goods in our storage unit and stacked them on the ever-changing piles on our side verandah. My January task is to empty the storage unit and give final homes to everything located in it. I am busily listing items on Ebay for new homes (how addictive is that game!!) and making tough decisions on what stays in our little home, and what goes. Financially it makes more sense to buy new things if and when the space becomes available. Money made from Ebay is going into new office furniture for the studio. Incentives all round. Did I also mention homme and I painted one wall tonight with the coloured limewash? Jury is still out on the colour but won’t make final decision until it dries in the morning.

Newest neighbour tuned 5 today so we popped over for cake and icecream and have just come home. So much for an early night all round!
